RealNetworks Opens Office in Brazil

RealNetworks opened an office in Brazil last week and already has plans to localize the sites RealGuide, LiveConcerts and Film.com in Portuguese within the next 18 months.

The company is currently in talks with Brazilian companies to launch sites with the Real brand in Brazil, according to Ricardo Cedale, RealNetwork’s general manager for Latin America.

RealGuide, LiveConcerts and Film.com sites will be built through partnerships with local companies.

“Our revenue in Brazil comes from the players and streaming servers we sell. We haven’t explored ads yet,” said Cedale. “As the Brazilian Internet market takes off this year, we believe we’ll be able to work in the Brazilian advertising area in the next few months.”

“It’s possible to set up corporate TV operations cheaply with Real technology,” said Cedale. He expects the executive TV technology will be used by many Brazilian companies.

Among the national companies that are already testing the Real products with this goal are Petrobrás, Furnas and StarMedia.
