Red Hat Poised to End the Year With a Bang

Red Hat’s flagship enterprise Linux product is flying high, grabbing market share from rival Microsoft’s offering among new project starts, which will likely be enough to propel the firm ahead of its earnings forecast for the third fiscal quarter of 2011.

Red Hat, due to report earnings on Tuesday after the market closes, has been benefiting from a broad shift among users from free to paid versions of Linux, as well as the increasing uptake of cloud computing. DevX takes a look at what observers can expect from Red Hat’s upcoming earnings report.


Linux vendor Red Hat (NYSE:RHT) is set to report its third fiscal quarter 2011 earnings after market close today. With new technology releases in full swing during the quarter, expectations are running high for a strong performance.

At the end of its second fiscal quarter 2011, Red Hat provided revenue guidance of between $226 million to $228 million. In a research note, analyst Trip Chowdhry of Global Equities research noted that he expects that Red Hat will beat its forecast with revenues of $228.6 million.
