Ricoh Consumer Products Group is pricing its RDC-4300 camera–which provides users with 1280 x 960 resolution–at $699.
This will place it, said the vendor, into the hands of “a broader array of
emerging digital-savvy photographers.”
“Customers today are faced with a confusing set of options when considering
the purchase of a digital camera,” said Joseph Bollentini, senior VP of Ricoh Consumer Products Group. “The RDC-4300 digital camera alleviates the confusion by offering users a complete solution that combines high-resolution, a full set of productivity software, a rechargeable battery kit and
performance-oriented features at a price point that appeals to a greater
market audience.”
One of the most intriguing features of the RDC-4300, said the firm, is its built-in sound
capabilities. Although it is a stills camera, it is designed to allow the user to record eight
seconds of customized audio to each image. Potential applications for the
sound facility include personalized e-mail attachments and archival notations.
The RDC-4300’s high resolution is, however, its main selling point. It
incorporates a 1.3 million pixel charge-coupled device (CCD), made to produce
switchable resolutions of 1280 x 960 pixels per image or 640 x 480 pixels
per image. Its macro lens allows the user to photograph objects as close as
3.2 inches.
Software comes with the camera, and includes Kai’s Power Show and
LogoMotion for creating presentations and 3D objects; ArcSoft PhotoBase
and PhotoStudio 2.0 for image editing and retouching; and Enroute’s
QuickStitch and QuickStitch 360 for creating panoramic images and movies.
The Ricoh RDC-4300 package is available now from Ricoh resellers in the
United States.
