RIM Eyeing Gist for Social Inbox?

Most tech observers agree that mobile is the next big hot area of development and growth — if it isn’t already. The fast growth of mobile device sales the past few years, followed more recently by the explosion of interest in tablet devices, make mobile devices a fertile area for developers.

One of the leading mobile providers, RIM, is hanging on to its lead in smartphone sales to the enterprise, but the company faces strong challenges from the iPhone and Android devices. Enterprise Mobile Today reports on one key acquisition RIM is reported to be considering, that promises to shore up the social media features in its devices.


Mobile device and services giant Research in Motion (RIM) may be close to closing a deal to acquire Seattle start-up Gist for its advanced mailbox and profile technologies, according to a well-known tech blogger.

The story broke Friday afternoon when blogger Om Malik surfaced the rumors, attributed to “industry sources,” in a post to the GigaOm blog.
