Sun Microsystems and iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions, a
Sun-Netscape Alliance operation, this week acquired Trustbase Ltd., whose subsidiary, JCP Computer Services, provides secure
public key infrastructure enabling technology for financial institutions.
Financial terms were not disclosed. JCP’s technology will be integrated with
iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions to offer financial institutions a secure
business-to-business infrastructure solution.
“With the acquisition of Trustbase and JCP’s unique technology, Sun and
iPlanet will be able to make secure business-to-business e-commerce a
reality, first at financial institutions and ultimately across all online
business-to-business,” said Edward Zander, president and chief operating
officer of Sun Microsystems.
With the integration of JCP’s technology, Sun and iPlanet said they will be
able to offer
a commercial infrastructure to resolve identity issues and provide a basis
for a
legal framework for financial services.
JCP’s technology is being developed as part of the product offering from Identrus, a private company backed by some
of the world’s top financial institutions.
Identrus has a charter to
establish the standards for and operate a global infrastructure that will
accelerate high-value trading between corporate customers and conclusively
identify online trading partners for business-to-business transactions.
The Identrus system, in addition to supporting all Internet commerce
authentication requirements, will potentially facilitate new corporate
Internet banking services such as
electronic funds transfer and payment, bill presentment and payment, online
procurement, cash management services and others.
JCP’s existing solution, Trustbase, is a platform that enables organizations
to
implement policy, manage access and mitigate the risks of trading online.
Trustbase will be integrated with the iPlanet Certificate Management System,
iPlanet Directory Server and iPlanet Application Server.
