NASDAQ-listed Sybase Wednesday created a new e-Business Division (eBD) following its acquisition of New Era of Networks (NEON) to combine both companies’ expertise in enterprise portals, Internet applications and enterprise integration, and serve up one of the most complete enterprise e-Business software suites on the market.
“NEON’s expertise in business-to-business integration, coupled with Sybase’s Enterprise Portal and development tools, should ensure our status as a major player in e-business infrastructure and place us on a par with heavy hitters such as IBM and BEA Systems,” said John Chen, Sybase’s chairman, president and chief executive officer.
Emeryville, Calif.-based Sybase agreed to acquire NEON in February this year in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately US$373 million. The pending acquisition significantly advances Sybase’s strategy to provide the most advanced, complete, integrated e-business solutions for doing business on the Web, Sybase said in a statement.
The eBD will consist of all NEON products, including its integration server e-Biz Integrator; and several Sybase e-Business products, including its flagship Enterprise Portal, application server EAServer and development tools PowerDesigner and PowerJ.
“The new e-Business Division and its enhanced offerings will be of great benefit to our customers in the application-to-application integration space,” former NEON Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rick Adam, who will now lead the eBD as its senior vice-president and general manager.
“NEON provides Sybase with the technology to handle the crucial task of allowing the different components of the platform to communicate. Sybase customers can now easily integrate best-of-class ERP, CRM, supply chain management and e-commerce applications while leveraging the best in enterprise portal technology.”
Through the eBD, Sybase expects to further its reach into the financial services, telecoms, healthcare and public sector markets, and establish its presence in the manufacturing, distribution, retail and utilities segments. It also hopes to capitalize on cross-sell opportunities in e-business, m-business and online banking.
Sybase’s new division joins a family of four existing business units:
- Business Intelligence Division: applications, tools and integrated data warehouse technologies
- Enterprise Solutions Division: data management, application development, replication and integration solutions
- Financial Fusion, Inc.: enterprise-class e-finance solutions
- iAnywhere Solutions, Inc.: mobile and wireless e-business products and services.
