Playing the quickest is best angle, Sybase subsidiary iAnywhere Solutions
Inc. Tuesday unveiled a one-stop enterprise wireless ASP service.

The solution aims to provide customers with wireless data solutions from
system design and development to wireless hosting, allowing
businesses to effectively overcome the challenges associated with
development of wireless data systems for faster time to market.

“Wireless communications can greatly enhance existing corporate
applications, and will eventually result in entirely new ways of
conducting business and supporting customers,” said Dwight Davis, vice
president and service director, Summit Strategies.

“But corporations starting down the wireless path face daunting logistical
and technical challenges. By providing services ranging from architectural
consulting to deployment, and hosted offerings, iAnywhere Solutions will
help lower the barriers companies face as they start exploring the wireless
world.”

iAnywhere Solutions has a significant partner base of more than 500
application vendors and community of more than 10,000
corporate customers of its mobile technology. This new program will boost
existing and new customers into the wireless market and help increase their
potential.

As for the mothership, Sybase Tuesday reported very
positive earnings news, in stark contrast to the cash burn other technology
firms have seen this quarter. Total revenues increased year-over-year by 11
percent to $239.1 million, compared with $216.1 million for the third
quarter of 1999.

Net income for the third quarter increased 40 percent to $26.7 million, or
30 cents per share, compared to net income of $19.1 million, or 23 cents per
share, in 1999. Sybase, which inked partnerships with the likes of IBM
Corp., YourZ.com, Fanhome.com and Bid4Vacations.com, ended the third quarter
with approximately $344 million in cash and cash investments.

Pieter Van der Vorst, vice president and chief financial officer at Sybase,
attributed part of his firm’s success to the success of its mobile and
wireless deals, spearheaded by iAnywhere Solutions.
