Xerox Forms Net Unit

Xerox Corp. Thursday put the finishing
touches on a new Internet business group to accelerate the company’s
Web-based business activities.

The group will enhance the Xerox Web site by adding a suite of knowledge tools which will also be available to partner
companies. Xerox (XRX) also plans to raise outside capital for the unit, hoping it will lead to higher shareholder returns.

“The Internet Business Group will amplify our key existing Internet
activities and develop new e-business and e-service opportunities,” said
Rick Thoman, Xerox president and chief executive officer. “It will also move swiftly to
leverage Internet-related research within Xerox technology centers worldwide.”

Thoman named Michael Miron as president of the new organization. Miron
previously served as senior vice president of corporate business strategy
and development.

In November, Xerox Corp. teamed with digital rights firm Reciprocal Inc. to
offer the Xerox/Reciprocal e-Publishing Clearing Service, designed to allow
publishers to be a comprehensive digital rights management service.
