Execs and Accounts for September 6, 2002

Sep 6, 2002

24/7 Real Media has rehired one of the company’s former executives to a newly created role. John Barbera, who was chief operating officer of 24/7 Europe for a period of 16 months extending to January 2001, returns now as senior vice president and chief revenue officer, responsible for sales of all media products in the U.S.

After his first tenure at 24/7 , Barbera joined up with iVillage as president of sales and marketing. His background also includes 16 years with CNN and other Turner networks. His own consulting firm, J.B. Communications, negotiated the initial network distribution for CNET.

Viewpoint has hired Larry Allen as vice president of online advertising products. Allen comes to Viewpoint from 24/7 Real Media, where he was VP of product management. In his new role, Allen will be focused on defining the company’s creative products and services for the ad industry — an area on which it has placed increasing focus in recent months. The company distributes its rich media player through deals with AOL and Compaq.

Real estate property network ForSaleByOwner.com has signed a deal with AltaVista to provide independent property listings within AltaVista search results.

Under the deal, ForSaleByOwner.com will become the featured search result when users enter any one of hundreds of real estate-related terms into AltaVista’s search engine. Additionally, the on- and offline real estate network will give AltaVista users access to real-estate news, content and exclusive resources for buyers and sellers.

Microsoft’s Canadian Web portal, MSN.ca, has hired Claude Richard as its new manager of business development and ad sales. During his six years at Microsoft’s Canadanian division, he has held positions in Microsoft Consulting Services as well as MSN.ca. He played a lead role in the launch of MSN Money in Canada, and has led the technical team that deploys all the portal’s service offerings in the Canadian market. In his new post, Richard will lead the national sales team, manage strategic business relationships and develop business opportunities at MSN.ca.
