In a deal aimed at helping musicians market their music, MP3.com Inc. and Expression Engines Inc. Tuesday struck a deal to add streaming audio and hyperlinked graphics to e-mail messages.

Using Favemail, an Expression Engines e-mail-enhancement tool, MP3.com community members can add audio and graphics directly into outgoing e-mail with a minimum increase in message file sizes. These images link the recipient to a Web site specified by the sender, which can stream music and other forms of multimedia when selected.

The alliance gives users who post their music on MP3.com’s site a promotional tool to increase exposure, drive site traffic and stimulate downloads. Digital artists may earn commissions through MP3.com’s Payback for Playback Program when their music is streamed through a Favemail-enriched message.

“The integration of Favemail throughout MP3.com allows millions of potential users to distribute MP3.com digital artist content and music via one of the most pervasive communication platforms — e-mail,” said Michael Robertson, chairman and chief executive officer of MP3.com.

“While providing an engaging way for fans to spread the word among friends about the music they love, Favemail also helps artists generate free publicity and possibly increase their revenues by sending more traffic to their MP3.com-hosted site. We believe that Favemail will also serve to extend Payback for Playback compensations through the broad application of e-mail.”

MP3.com will offer the Expression Engines messaging solution to its members and will also utilize Favemail as an e-mail complement to its affiliate-marketing program, Bucks to Beam It.
