WhoWhere? Inc., a provider of free Web- based communication and collaboration applications, formed a partnership with Zip2 Corp., a provider of ad-backed city guides
to media companies.
Mountain View, CA-based WhoWhere’s free Web-based e-mail and directories will
be offered by Zip2 to its network of more than 160 media companies. Financial
terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The New York Times Electronic Media Company’s new Web site, New York Today is the first site to adopt Zip2’s city guide platform that includes the WhoWhere? apps.
“We are providing a city guide platform that will help newspapers become a
daily online destination for their audiences and WhoWhere’s Web-based
applications are an important part of that offering,” said Elon Musk, founder
and executive vice president of Zip2. “The suite of applications that Zip2 and
WhoWhere provide will strengthen a newspapers online effort by adding core
features to their Web sites without costly development time and maintenance
worries.”
Another component to the agreement calls for a link swap. WhoWhere will add a
link on its homepage to Zip2’s Maps and Directions and Zip2 will place a link
to WhoWhere’s e-mail address, residential phone and address directories on its
home page.
