Riverbed Taking WAN Acceleration to the Cloud

  • Riverbed added a virtual edition to its core Steelhead acceleration product earlier this year. Now, the WAN acceleration vendor is going full-bore into the cloud.

    Riverbed this week rolled out the Cloud Steelhead version of its flagship networking appliance, geared for cloud deployments built on Amazon’s computing infrastructure and offering new acceleration and storage technologies. Included in the rollout is the new Whitewater cloud storage and backup solution. Enterprise Networking Planet has the details.


    As the move toward cloud-based IT infrastructure continues, so too does the need for network acceleration. To that end, WAN acceleration vendor Riverbed (NASDAQ:RVBD) is announcing new cloud-focused application and storage acceleration technologies to help expedite the adoption and usage of cloud technologies.

    From Riverbed’s perspective, enterprises are facing two core problems when it comes to cloud adoption: distance and data.
