At the top of the new HPC server portfolio is the Apollo 8000, a liquid-cooled server solution. Density is a key attribute for the Apollo servers, and with the Apollo 8000 up to 144 servers can be combined in a single rack. From a management perspective, the HP Apollo 8000 System Manager provides management functionality for the server rack.
Networking connectivity is enabled with the new HP Infiniband switch for the Apollo 8000 system. Each Infiniband switch has 36 ports, with 18 uplinks and 18 downlinks for node connectivity. Up to 8 Infiniband switches can be deployed in a single Apollo 8000 rack.
The Apollo 6000 system is the other new HPC system, with enough capacity to handle up 160 HP ProLiant XL220a Servers in one 48U rack. With the Apollo systems, HP is claiming significant gains in overall density. With the Apollo 6000 specifically, HP claims that in the space that normally could only accommodate five traditional servers, the Apollo system can fit 20.
