Software alone isn’t enough to secure enterprise against modern threats. That’s the view of chip giant Intel, that is now in the process of embedding securing technology into its new third generation Intel Core vPro platform.
The Intel vPro third generation now includes security enhancements to help protect against identity theft as well as tighter integration with Intel’ McAfee security technologies.
Rick Echevarria, vice president, Intel Architecture Group and general manager, Business Client Platform Division explained during an Intel press event that in 2011 Intel introduced identity protection using a one time password. Customer feedback to that effort was that Intel needed to do more. So now with third generation Intel vPro, the company is adding new features and one of them is the protected transaction display capability.
“The protected transaction display addresses the issue of testing for user presense in front of the system,” Echevarria said. “Through the combination of our CPU and graphics we’re able to identify that there is a user in front of the system and we can do that without any of the keys or PIN numbers being exposed to the operating system.”
Additionally, Intel’s third generation vPro now integrates with Intel OS Guard to help prevent malware from executing on a system. The other important third generation vPro security technology that is being included is embedded PKI. Echevarria noted that is important to business as it is more scalable than a one-time password.
