The market of open source Linux appliance software is pretty big. There are already 80,000 users in Novell’s SUSE Appliance program who have developed over 300,000 Linux appliances.
As Server Watch reports, Novell has now unveiled a new SUSE Gallery that features a wide variety of Linux appliances that users can download or use as a guide or foundation to new appliances they might want to build. Novell is positioning this is a community site as opposed to a venue for selling products.
How do you grow the market for Linux based appliances?
One solution is by providing potential users and developers with a way to find and share appliances, which is precisely what Linux vendor Novell is now doing. Novell (NASDAQ:NOVL) new SUSE Gallery site is a place to find appliances built with its SUSE Studio Linux appliance building technology.
