Quantum|ATL Announces Pegasus Data Protection for NETAPP Filers

Quantum|ATL, a supplier of tape automation products for networked computers, today announced availability of its Pegasus Data Protection Solution for NetApp(R) Filers. Available through select resellers, the company says the solution allows multiple NetApp filers from Network Appliance to be seamlessly connected to any Quantum|ATL P-Series library using a Brocade SilkWorm(R) fabric switch with full-fabric support.

As part of the Quantum|ATL Constellation Series, the Pegasus Solution is designed for environments that have already invested in a Fibre Channel infrastructure or for environments that need a common Fibre Channel backbone for both NetApp filers and application servers. According the the company, the Pegasus Data Protection Solution for NetApp Filers allows numerous filers and servers to share a single library, significantly reducing hardware and management costs while making better use of tape library resources.

Using a SAN architecture, multiple NetApp filers can share a Fibre Channel-attached P2000, P3000 or P6000 tape library from Quantum|ATL using the Brocade Silkworm 2800 Fibre Channel switch for a direct and high-speed connection, helping remove backup disruptions from applications.

“Brocade SANs are being implemented globally as a scalable, high-performance networking foundation for storage environments,” said Jay Kidd, vice president of product marketing for Brocade. “Solutions such as the Pegasus Data Protection Solution enable customers to leverage the scalability, reliability and performance of Brocade-based SANs to support business-critical applications.”

“As our network-centric storage solutions continue to evolve, working with Quantum|ATL and others enables us to expand our Fibre Channel SAN capabilities and provides our customers with the opportunity to leverage their existing IT infrastructures, while realizing greater data availability and enhanced disaster recovery,” said Ray Villeneuve, vice president of strategic marketing at Network Appliance.

Quantum|ATL’s Pegasus Data Protection Solution for NetApp Filers has been tested and certified for interoperability with leading software vendors such as BakBone, CommVault, Legato, Quadratec, Syncsort and VERITAS Software. Quantum|ATL will provide complete service and support through its resellers including consulting services, assessment, design, implementation, operation and optimization of the customer’s data protection plan.

The complete Pegasus Data Protection Solution for NetApp Filers is available immediately, with a manufacturer’s suggested list price starting at $127,600. For more information, contact Dean Morash, business alliance manager at Quantum|ATL, at 949/856-7945.
