Tricord Systems, a developer of clustering software and NAS appliances today announced enhanced protocol support and the general availability of a replication feature in its Illumina clustering product that will allow customers to use its Lunar Flare appliances for business continuance and online backup.

According to the company, Tricord replication enables customers to maximize their business continuity by distributing their data between two Tricord clusters. Tricord said that in the event of a disaster, user access can be switched to the mirrored cluster within minutes, allowing business operations to continue almost uninterrupted. Cluster-to-cluster replication can also be used for online backup.

The newest release, Release 2.2, also expands Illumina’s support for access protocols, adding HTTP and FTP support. The Illumina-enabled appliances, Lunar Flare NAS and Lunar Flare Application Appliance, now support CIFS (Windows), AppleTalk, HTTP, and FTP for user access to storage shares.
