VERITAS Acquires NTP’s Storage Reporter Product

VERITAS today announced that it has acquired Manchester, NH. based NTP Software’s Storage Reporter, a reporting product that makes it possible to view storage usage and more exercise control over storage management and associated costs.

VERITAS says that Storage Reporter will complement its storage resource management (SRM) offering, SANPoint Control. According to the company, it will enable IT managers to track and plan storage usage by users, departments, applications, file types or geography. These features will not only help CIOs to better predict future storage growth patterns, but will also give them the ability to charge-back storage costs, creating department-level accountability for ever-growing storage needs and costs.

The reporting capabilities of Storage Reporter will be integrated with the active management features of SANPoint Control, which plays an integral role in the VERITAS Adaptive Software Architecture – a software-centric model designed to reduce the complexity and costs of managing storage environments.

“Customers can now look to a single vendor to provide them with automated discovery and management of their storage infrastructure and the reporting tools to understand current needs and model future storage usage scenarios,” said Mark Bregman, executive vice president, product operations, VERITAS Software. “By adding Storage Reporter to our SRM portfolio, we will help our customers to predict and manage future storage procurement needs while optimizing the management of their current storage infrastructure.”

The acquisition still leaves NTP with other storage management products – Quota and File Sentinel, and Self Managing Storage.

The terms of the agreement between NTP and VERITAS were not disclosed.
