OpenStack Cloud Hits Cactus Release

OpenStack continues to move forward. This past week, the open source cloud computing effort issued the Cactus release providing new capabilities.

The Cactus release include performance and bug fixes as well as an enhanced authentication system for its cloud storage component.

The Cactus release also begins the process of opening up OpenStack to an even broader ecosystem with a new API.

“You can write the functionality as a module that includes an API extension,” Jonathan Bryce, chairman of the Project Policy Board for OpenStack told InternetNews.com. “When you deploy your version of OpenStack you can release that as a part of the OpenStack API that is running on top of your environment.”
