Oracle Debuts NetBeans IDE 6.9

After Oracle’s acquisition of Sun, developers had been wondering what would become of NetBeans, given that Oracle supports rival IDE Eclipse. Well, Oracle has made good on its promise to continue to develop and support NetBeans with the release of version 6.9 of the IDE.

With the latest release, NetBeans is offering the JavaFX Composer and improved support for PHP. Developer.com has the details.


One of the questions asked prior to Oracle’s acquisition of Sun Microsystems was whether or not the NetBeans IDE would continue under Oracle ownership. This week, Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) gave the market a definitive answer with the release of NetBeans IDE 6.9.

NetBeans is a competitive environment to the open source Eclipse IDE, which Oracle also backs. A new version of Eclipse is due out later this month.
