NetScreen Technologies, a leading
developer of integrated security appliances, and WebTrends Corp. Tuesday announced a
joint marketing partnership to provide solutions for firewall and VPN
management.

The alliance combines NetScreen’s integrated firewall, VPN and traffic
shaping
appliance with WebTrends reporting and analysis solutions to deliver
real-time reporting capabilities of network security log files, the firms
said. They will begin bundling of trial evaluations of WebTrends for
Firewalls and VPNs v1.2 with NetScreen’s version 1.6 of its NetScreen-10 and
NetScreen-100 security appliances as the first step of the partnership.

NetScreen’s security appliance is designed to enable real-time delivery of
security log
files. It will deliver all data recorded by the firewall or VPN in real time
to WebTrends’ embedded syslog server, from which administrators can then
easily and immediately run reports.

“Security logs are really only of value when the network administrator can
review their reports quickly and easily, and immediately make changes when
required,” said Robert Thomas, president and chief executive officer of NetScreen. “The
WebTrends software with NetScreen’s real-time enabled system delivers this
value.”
