A Day For Acquisitions, Accusations

Accusations and acquisitions made for a lively day in the stock market on Tuesday.

AMD jumped 6% after the chipmaker slapped rival Intel with an antitrust suit. On a strong day for the stock market, Intel rose anyway, climbing 1.8%.

SeeBeyond rocketed 30% on news that it will be acquired by Sun for $387 million.

Lionbridge , meanwhile, soared 43% on news that it plans to acquire Browne Global Solutions from Browne & Co.

The broader market posted strong gains on a big drop in oil prices and a jump in consumer confidence.

The Nasdaq rose 24 to 2069, the S&P gained 10 to 1201, and the Dow jumped 114 to 10,405. Volume rose to 1.77 billion shares on the NYSE, and 1.64 billion on the Nasdaq. Advancers led 23-8 on the NYSE, and 22-8 margin on the Nasdaq. Upside volume was 78% on the NYSE, and 79% on the Nasdaq. New highs-new lows were 177-34 on the NYSE, and 98-36 on the Nasdaq.

Oracle climbed 2.3% ahead of its earnings report Wednesday morning.

Paychex jumped 10% on strong results.

August climbed 9% on news that it will be acquired by Rudolph Tech .

AirNet soared 29% after raising guidance.

Portal fell 18% on news that it will be de-listed from the Nasdaq.
