Centraal Corp., makers of the
RealNames Web site addressing system, Thursday debuted Active Namespaces, a
direct navigation tool designed to ease a user through large, content-
filled Web sites.
The Securities and Exchange Commission, the U.S. Patent Office and the
Internal Revenue Service are the first Web sites to make use of the
navigation tool. Users can search for IRS tax forms,
patent filings and specific information about publicly-traded companies
without getting lost in a vast array of content.
Centraal said it will also introduce additional Active Namespaces for
commercial companies in the near
future, with a variety of consumer and e-commerce Web sites offering many
types of services.
Interested parties can download the tool from RealNames’ Web site, and it is also available via
the AltaVista search engine.
“Users will now benefit from smart navigation to a growing number of
data-driven Web sites,” said
Ted West, Centraal’s executive vice president of marketing and sales.
“We expect to roll out new commercial Active Namespaces each month throughout 1999 and beyond. The opportunity for our partners is that
their users will have simple access to a growing range of information.”
