Business e-mail service provider Critical Path Inc. added more tools to its belt with the acquisition Wednesday of Amplitude Software Corp., a company that produces calendars and scheduling utilities.

Amplitude builds Web-based business solutions that address resource sharing and calendaring demands across an enterprise. Its product suite includes EventCenter calendar software, the Reserve shared scheduling tool and Mobilize, which automates the reservation of shared workspaces.

Under terms of the acquisition Critical Path will integrate Amplitude’s product suite into its host of business solutions, which will be marketed toward Internet service providers and corporate intranets. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The acquisition is part of Critical Path’s strategy to bulk up services it offers to business customers. Earlier this month, the company acquired e-mail company Fabrik Communications Inc. Doug Hickey, Critical Path’s president and chief executive officer, said Amplitude adds the right resources to its range of services.

“We believe that Amplitude’s calendar and resource sharing solutions add a critical layer of value on top of our formidable messaging platform for the enterprise and Internet markets.”
