German Search Engines Get In on the Stock Market Action

Finanztrend, an Internet financial services joint venture between search engine company Endemann!! Internet.de AG and Financial.de AG is scheduled to go live May 26.

According to the terms of the agreement, the new German financial online service will present stock exchange information, charts, topical news from various groups and dates of IPOs. It will also list brokers and provide mailing lists, among other services. Discussion groups will be able look at new companies going public on the Neuer Markt.

Endemann will be integrating Finanztrend.de in its own Aladin, Eule, and Spider search engines.

“We are not only providing a clear added value for our search engine users, but for others also,” emphasized board chairman, Ingo Endemann.

Eule.de, which was taken over by Endemann in mid-February, was recently rated the top search engine on the Web in German. Eule.de leads in Germany from competitors like Lycos, Altavista, Hotbot and Fireball. It currently runs more then 6 million pages in German on the Internet.

Financial.de (www.financial.de) runs one of the leading on-line financial communities in Germany with over 15,000 members.

Eule topped a longitudinal test carried out by Business Interactive. Hundreds of searches were carried out. Answer rates were assessed and the addresses checked for correctness. The cut-off came between 2,200 and 2,500 addresses.

German language search engines made a random search, based on nouns from a German word list. In English language searches, an English language list was used. Words not producing at least ten addresses on all search engines were removed from the list and not used in future.
Test results can be found at the Business Interactive Web site.
