Hongkong Telecom (HKT) has been rated the top performer in frame relay service in the latest survey published by Data Communications, a US-based industry magazine.

Rating was based on three criteria, namely price, backbone network and service level agreements.

Eleven major frame relay operators were asked to
respond to a request for proposal (RFP) for a typical corporate network connecting 13 cities in Asia-Pacific, with additional links to the U.K. and the U.S.

Seven companies supplied adequate information for service rating.

The survey report indicated that HKT stood out from the rest in terms of delivering good value for the money.

“Its backbone is comparable to those of other operators, its overall charges were the second lowest, and it’s the only carrier willing to guarantee access lines, the main source of network problems,” read the report.

Other participants of the survey include , Global One, Infonet Services, MCI Worldcom Asia Pacific, Singapore Telecom and Telemedia International.

HKT’s director of international market development, Joseph Ma
said, “These findings reaffirm our commitment to provide customers with the best-value regional networking services as exemplified by the aNet solutions in our Com21 portfolio.”

“Our strong network infrastructure and
solid expertise in the industry mean we are uniquely placed to excel in meeting global communications needs.”

Hongkong Telecom’s International Frame Relay service is based on individual bilateral agreements between the Company and carriers of other countries.
