JFAX.com Buys Time with Acquisition

Mar 6, 2000

Online messaging firm JFAX.com Monday broadened its line of communications tools with the purchase of TimeShift Inc.

No financial details of the acquisition were disclosed, though TimeShift
founder and chief technology officer Leo D’Angelo will join JFAX (JFAX)
as its chief technology oficer.

TimeShift provides C-Commerce — technology designed to allow real-time
communications and commerce
applications. Its products and services will be integrated with the JFAX.com
network, the companies said. JFAX’s services work to enable a user’s e-mail
box to function as a single repository for all e-mail, fax, voice-mail. The
company also provides e-mail
and voice-mail retrieval through e-mail or by phone.

“The acquisition of the TimeShift technology further establishes JFAX.COM’s
commitment to providing the only communication service
businesses and consumers will require,” said Steve Hamerslag, JFAX chief
executive officer. “The addition of Leo
D’Angelo to our executive staff brings tremendous expertise on the technical
side, and has allowed JFAX.COM to create an entirely new category in unified
communications.”

The two companies will work specifically on a new service made for
point-to-point calls to be expanded into a
conference call, eliminating the need for traditional conference calling
services. JFAX subscribers will be able to initiate conference calls and add
voice functionality to traditional Internet “chat.” This service will be
available from JFAX through Web-enabled cell phones, the Palm VII device or
on a desktop PC.
