MCI WorldCom, Inc. has launched Internet services for businesses in the Asia-Pacific region that will be available through MCI WorldCom’s UUNET division.

According MCI WorldCom, the company will base its UUNET Asia-Pacific operations in Hong Kong with the aim of helping develop Hong Kong and Asia’s Internet infrastructure, and transform the region’s capabilities as a major international Internet gateway.
The first phase of MCI WorldCom’s Asia network is now operational in Hong Kong, in Japan through a new office, and in Australia through its acquisition of OzEmail.
MCI WorldCom plans to introduce its Internet services across other countries in Asia in the course of the next year.

UUNET will be the third American ISP to establish a regional presence after AT&T and PSINet.
