Storage, Services Help Dell Beat the Street

Like many of its rivals in the enterprise hardware space, Dell saw a strong quarter owing to returning interest among IT decision-makers in buying new data center components.

In Dell’s case, the company topped Wall Street expectations owing to surging strength in its EqualLogic storage unit and in its services business, built in large part on its 2009 acquisition of Perot Systems. Datamation takes a look at the numbers.



For the first time in quite a while, Dell reported quarterly figures that beat expectations

and it was due to increased enterprise buying more than consumer and small-business spending, which had been the company

s best business throughout much of the 2009 downturn.



Dell CFO Brian Gladden attributed the performance to a better economy that’s sparking IT buyers to begin spending again in several key areas. He also credited internal changes at the company, something he and CEO Michael Dell have worked on for more than a year.
