Germany’s Deutsche Bank has opened an online shop for users to make
payments by credit card (128 bit-key, SSL-encryption), on account or using
e-cash, Deutsche Bank’s Internet payment system for small
amounts.
This makes Deutsche Bank the first financial services provider with an
online shop including integrated Internet payment. It emphasizes the bank’s
leading position in the field of e-commerce.
Deutsche Bank’s online shop is offering a wide range of in-house
information brochures, videos and CD-ROMs that can be ordered online. Some
of the software is available for immediate download. There are also more
that 200 prints and 80 merchandise offers.
The spectrum ranges from A for an “Alphabet for foreign trade” to Z for
“Contemporary [Zeitgenoessische in German] Art at the Deutsche Bank,” which
can be ordered from various catalogues.
There is also an offer for collectors that would otherwise only be directly
available from the museum shop at the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin. A
bespoke gentleman’s suit tailored in paper by James Rosenquist is one
example. The collectors’ items will change on a regular basis.
“We can handle all types of e-commerce. The shop allows us to present the
wide-ranging information and consultancy options available at Deutsche Bank
more rapidly and easily to those interested,” said Frank Moerler, Internet
team leader for the Business and Real Estate Business Unit at the bank.
Expertise deriving from the online shop is also made available by the bank
to its business customers. It provides them with advice about the online
shop concept and how to run their own and also offers them integrated
online payment systems.
“The added value of the Deutsche Bank Online-shop, compared with other
offerings, is that we can offer Internet competence and the additional
banking competence of a reliable banker with safe long-term solutions,”
said Christian Rhino, technical projects manager.
