Wave Wireless Networking has signed an agreement to construct a high speed wireless government network for Mudanjiang City in the northern Chinese province of Heilongjiang.
Construction of city government’s network has been divided into separate phases. The first phase of this project is worth $750,000 and will connect over 200 government buildings, including administration, police, and other various government services. Plans for continuing phases have not been announced.
Wave Wireless is counting on the fact that the existing infrastructure in China is unable to provide enough bandwidth to support the country’s Internet significant growth rates. The company feels that it has a quicker solution to traditional networking.
“We feel that the benefits of wireless networking address both the social and commercial aspects of city government, and it makes a good solution for managing China’s rapidly expanding local economies,” said Drew D. Darby, Wave’s director of international sales for Europe, Middle East, Asia & Africa.
Mudanjiang City’s Vice Mayor said that the wireless network will provide better communications between government agencies and attract foreign investors to the city.
According to Wave Wireless, its SpeedLAN bridge/routers perform at speeds up to 10 Mbps and may be combined with other Wave products including E1/T1 full duplex wireless modems to provide wireless metropolitan area networks like the one being implemented in Mudanjiang.
