Voting Opens for UK Web Awards

UK Yellow Pages Web site Yell announced
that voting has started for the UK Web Awards, and will continue until May 8.

Winners will be announced at a special ceremony in the BAFTA theatre in
London’s Piccadilly on July 9.

The UK Web Awards are organized by Yell and co-sponsored by The Computer
Channel, Marketing Magazine, and Internet.Works magazine.

“We received over 5,000 nominations last year and we expect even more
for the 1998 awards,” said Dr. Eddie Cheng, New Media Services Director at
Yellow Pages. “Each year we are surprised and delighted by the overall
quality and innovation of UK Web sites, contributing to Britain’s leading
position in Web design worldwide.”

There are nine categories in this year’s UK Web Awards:

  • Most innovative Web site
  • Best commercial Web site
  • Best non-commercial Web site
  • Best personal Web site
  • Best online publication
  • Best entertainment Web site
  • Best Web design agency
  • Best online banner ad
  • Web users’ choice

From the winners of the above categories the judges will choose the Site of
the Year which is, say the organizers, the “ultimate accolade.”
