Broadcom’s 100 Terabits per Second Switching

How do networking vendors distinguish their products? Speed and performance are two important measures.

As Enterprise Networking Planet details, a team of a hundred engineers at Broadcom spent two years developing its latest solution, the BCM88600 series of Ethernet switching silicon. Broadcom’s products are used by a variety of switching and routing vendors. The BCM88600 series can scale from 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps) to 100 Terabits per second (Tbps).

The race to accelerate the networking market to 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) is getting a boost this week thanks to new technology from semiconductor vendor Broadcom (NASDAQ:BRCM). Broadcom’s silicon is used by multiple switching and routing vendors.

Broadcom announced the new BCM88600 series of Ethernet switching silicon, which can scale from 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps) to 100 Terabits per second (Tbps). Broadcom’s announcement comes when the market for 100 GbE based solutions is heating up.
