Microsoft Brings an Olive Branch to Black Hat

No software company is an island, at least not in the security wars. Microsoft came to the Black Hat security conference this year with a message of collaboration, reaching out both to the research community and Adobe in an effort to broaden its security collaboration.

Microsoft has often had a testy relationship with the research community, but at Black Hat, the company announced details of expanded collaborative initiatives aimed at ferreting out security vulnerabilities. eSecurity Planet takes a look at Microsoft’s latest thinking on the security front.


LAS VEGAS — Microsoft is enhancing its outreach this week with a series of expanded initiatives to help improve the security of its applications.

The new initiatives include collaboration with Adobe for helping to disclose security issues as part of the Microsoft Active Protections Program (MAPP). Microsoft is also expanding the protection is makes freely available to its users with an updated version of its Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET).
