XOOM Inc., a direct
selling-based Web
community, signed a licensing agreement with ArcaMax Inc. for the exclusive
rights to Greetings Online, a
Web-based greeting card service that XOOM will offer to its members for free.

Financial arrangements were not disclosed.

The greeting card service is the newest offering on XOOM’s menu of free Web
community services, which includes HTML e-mail;
11MB of server space; chat rooms and message boards; an extensive library of
Web clip art and streaming classic movies; a software download area; and its
membership service that allows members to create their own membership lists
and
generate commerce opportunities.

The Greetings Online cards are delivered via e-mail and contain at least one
animated gif file; a sound effect, which is played when the card opens; and a
midi file that plays while the card is being read. The average size of a card
is between 70K and 75K.

Selling its proprietary products as well as third party products to its
registered members, XOOM said it “has pioneered direct-response selling on the
Internet.”
