In what the companies are billing as the largest e-commerce
agreement involving computer merchandising, Net retailer Cyberian Outpost Inc. has been named the exclusive hardware and software seller on Europe’s 12 Lycos Bertelsmann Web sites.
The one-year agreement calls for Lycos Bertelsmann to receive exclusive license payment and share profits from Cyberian Outpost for each transaction generated by the 12 Lycos Bertelsmann Web sites. Full financial details were not disclosed.
The European sites, which are a joint venture between Waltham, MA-based Lycos Inc. and German media conglomerate Bertelsmann AG., are located in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK.
Cyberian Outpost, based in Kent CT, will offer 120,000 hardware and software
products in its online inventory. They will be offered at U.S. prices, which
translates into a discount to European consumers, the company said.
“We’ve been shipping hardware and software products to Europe for more
than three years,” said Darryl Peck, president and chief executive officer of Cyberian Outpost. “This partnership enhances our international presence by providing us with more than 30 million impressions per month from the Lycos sites, which further establishes our leadership role in European electronic
commerce.”
The Lycos announcement follows Yahoo! Inc.’s introduction of its new Yahoo! Computers site today.
The company secured deals with TechWave Inc. to sell 50,000 computer, software, and peripheral products from BuySoftware.com, and with ONSALE, Inc. to offer a live feed of current ONSALE auctions for desktop computers, laptops, printers, modems, monitors, scanners, video cards, and digital cameras.
