Macromedia and Release Software announced today the
companies have entered into an Electronic Software Distribution (ESD)
agreement.
Release Software, which distributes and markets software sold on the
Internet, will provide ESD packaging, security technology, and Electronic
License Clearinghouse services for Macromedia software distributed via the
Net.
Macromedia’s Dreamweaver Web
site creation tool will be one of the first products made available under
the new distribution agreement. Users will be able to download a 30-day
evaluation copy of the product and pay for it over the Internet with
Release’s License Clearinghouse.
Other ESD-enabled software available for download include Flash 2, the
FreeHand Animation Power Pack, and other products designed to add
functionality to Macromedia’s Director and Authorware.
Release currently collaborates with 200 software publishers–including
Symantec, CUC Software, Lotus, Intuit, Computer Associates,
Hewlett-Packard, Philips, and Netscape–and distributes over 3,000 software
titles through its distribution network.
