Novell Inks Cloud Computing Deal With Amazon

Enterprise interest in cloud computing services is growing as companies with tight IT budgets look for cheaper alternatives to expanding their data center infrastructure, which is not only costly but can also mean having to find more space for servers and other hardware.

Best known as an ecommerce provider of all manner of consumer goods and its Kindle eBook reader, Amazon is also making quite a name for itself as a provider of public cloud services. Server Watch reports on Novell’s move to bring its SUSE Linux Enterprise to Amazon’s cloud where it will be available on a pay-per-use basis.

s SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) is now available on Amazon

s cloud as a pay-per-use operating system. The move follows similar efforts from rivals Red Hat and Ubuntu, though Novell executives stressed that their approach is different.

The Amazon EC2 SLES service is part of Novell’s Cloud Program to help enable cloud providers to deliver Novell’s Linux.
