Arena Pharmaceuticals Selects Dot Hill’s SANnet System

Dot Hill Systems Corp., a provider of carrier-class information storage and SAN solutions, announced that Arena Pharmaceuticals Inc. has selected Dot Hill’s SANnet(TM) system as the storage component of the Arena Database, a proprietary drug discovery database.

“Drug discovery, particularly when based upon drug screening at multiple drug targets, generates enormous amounts of data. This can cause at least two significant problems from a data management perspective: (1) how to store the data, and allow scientists from different scientific groups to have real-time access to all data related to their projects; and (2) how to ensure that data that may not apply in one project is not discarded, with the understanding that such data may be important for a solution in another project,” said Jack Lief, Arena’s chief executive officer and president. “We chose Dot Hill’s SANnet system to store our scientific data and other information based on its small footprint, scalability, and performance. We especially liked the ease of use of the SANpath(TM) storage management software.”

James Lambert, Dot Hill president, said, “It’s exciting to provide Arena with the reliable storage systems and support they require. SANnet decreases the amount of time their scientists spend searching through large quantities of data, which leads to faster drug discovery. Our systems are currently storing almost four terabytes of Arena information and this amount of data is projected to grow substantially. As Arena’s storage needs grow, our SANnet systems will cost-effectively scale to grow with them.”
