OptiGlobe(TM), a provider of mission-critical enterprise and Internet Data Center (IDC) services in Latin America, has opened its third IDC. Located in Rio de Janeiro, the $100 million fifth-generation facility has 104,000 square feet of capacity, is expandable to a total of 312,000 square feet, and can host up to 7,500 servers in its initial configuration.
The carrier-neutral Rio de Janeiro IDC is the second facility OptiGlobe has opened this month and the third in five months. The company launched a 112,000-square-foot facility in Buenos Aires on April 4 and a 159,000-square- foot IDC in Sao Paulo in November 2000.
“This is our second center in Brazil and a perfect complement to our two existing facilities,” said Scott Puritz, chairman and CEO of OptiGlobe. “We are the only provider with 100,000-square-foot-plus IDCs in Brazil’s two largest cities and in South America’s three largest cities. It delivers a full range of collocation, IP connectivity, hosting, managed security and managed storage solutions from its state-of-the-art data centers. Customers include financial institutions, consumer goods, industrial, retail and transportation companies, media companies, content providers and systems integrators.
