QLogic Corp. announced that Sun Microsystems Inc. has integrated the QLogic ISP2200 Fibre Channel controller chip into its 900MHz Sun Blade 1000 workstation.
“The Sun Blade 1000 workstation is designed to meet the rigorous demands required by the compute-intensive applications of technical computing as well as the heavy lifting necessary for high quality 3D
graphics applications,” said Fred Kohout, director of Marketing, Technical Market Products at Sun Microsystems. “With the ISP2200 controller chip we are able to provide high-speed Fibre Channel connections standard in the Sun Blade 1000 workstation at extremely low costs to our customers, and QLogic’s unique ISP architecture delivers exceptional compatibility with a broad range of Fibre Channel devices.”
“Storage-intensive applications are driving demand for Fibre Channel
connectivity versus SCSI for external storage,” said Frank Berry, vice
president of Marketing for QLogic’s Computer Systems Group. “As a result, it makes perfect economic sense to replace the overhead of host adapter connectivity with less expensive Fibre Down on the server or workstation motherboard.”
