ThruPoint Inc., a network infrastructure consultant, this week introduced its new OptiPoint professional services solution. The company said the solution addresses the storage networking market by providing the expertise to enable strategic storage management.
“Our approach to storage networking is to focus not only on migrating away from a directly connected storage environment and leveraging SAN and NAS technologies, but also to focus on the high-bandwidth transport medium, and its ability to scale to accommodate the new demands of consolidated storage,” said Bill Nachtigal, EVP and chief technology officer of ThruPoint. “An optical network lies at the heart of a corporation’s ability to adopt today’s emerging technologies, of which storage networking is a prime example. We believe this big-picture approach will more quickly bring about the many cost benefits of storage networking, as well as better position a corporation’s network for future bandwidth-demanding technology initiatives.”
“Major enterprise networks, such as those in financial services corporations, have established optical networks for high capacity bandwidth. As such, they are able to leverage their networks across multiple services environments — and storage networking becomes a natural next step,” said Barry Rich, Technical Services director for ThruPoint. “Because there are so many performance and cost efficiencies to be gained by consolidating storage within one infrastructure, clients are realizing a real return on their network investment.”
