    SANTA CLARA, June 21–Virata Corporation
    announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire privately held
    Excess Bandwidth Corporation in exchange for approximately 6.3
    million shares of Virata common stock,
    valued at approximately $315 million. The Excess Bandwidth transaction is expected to
    provide Virata with symmetric DSL physical layer capabilities targeted at
    the high-growth markets for both business premises and central office

    WOODBURY, N.Y., June 21–Comverse Technology , the world’s leading supplier of software and systems enabling
    network-based enhanced services, announced that its majority-owned
    subsidiary, Telemesser, will merge with privately-held, UK-based
    e-go systems plc, a leading applications service provider (ASP)
    specializing in global, seamless, IP-based unified messaging and access
    services for the enterprise market. Upon completion of the merger, Comverse will own up to 30% of the
    combined organization, which will operate under the e-go brand. Terms were not

    PORTLAND, Ore., June 21–Consonus, a premier provider of
    e-business consulting, application development, and managed hosting
    services, announced that it was acquired on June 1, 2000 by Questar
    , a Salt Lake City-based diversified energy company,
    through its subsidiary engaged in information technologies and services.


    Concurrent with the acquisition of Consonus, Questar created a new company,
    retaining the name Consonus, Inc., that merges Consonus’ e-business
    application services with other Questar operations and services including
    enterprise network engineering, network operations and data center

    Music Technology
    and Net4Music SA, a private
    French company that sells pr

    int music online, said they have agreed to
    merge in a stock deal. According to the terms of the deal, Coda will acquire all shares of Net4Music in exchange for stock, but
    Coda shareholders will own one-third of the combined company after the deal
    closes. The combined company will be called Net4Music Inc. and is expected
    to continue to trade on Nasdaq. The companies declined to specify further
    the value of the deal.

    PEARL RIVER, N.Y., June 21–Frontline Communications announced that it has acquired Delanet of New Castle,
    Delaware, and Wizardnet of McLean, Virginia. For both transactions
    together, Frontline paid
    approximately $2.3 million in cash, 200,000 shares of unregistered common
    stock and $.75 million in debt convertible at $8 per share. Delanet is an Internet services company
    focusing on the small business community, including a line of wireless
    broadband Internet products and solutions, while Wizardnet is primarily an access company
    serving the Washington D.C. and Virginia markets.

    SAN FRANCISCO, June 21–MyFamily.com, the leading online
    family network, announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire
    RootsWeb.com, the oldest and largest free community genealogy site.
    With the acquisition, MyFamily.com
    will add RootsWeb.com to its
    portfolio of Web sites, which also includes FamilyHistory.com and
    Ancestry.com. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
