Germany’s Artnet.com in Art Deal with AOL

Art portal Artnet.com AG Wednesday struck a deal with America Online, Inc. to provide its art auctions, services and resources to AOL users.

Under terms of the agreement, Artnet becomes an anchor tenant on AOL’s Shop@AOL Art & Antiques area, as well as a silver tenant in the Auctions department. In return, AOL (AOL) will promote Artnet.com in its Influence and Entertainment Channels as well as throughout AOL.com and Netscape Netcenter.

Tapping the international market, Artnet.com will also expand its international marketing strategy with a presence on AOL and CompuServe in Germany. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Artnet.com’s Web site provides a variety of art content and e-commerce, including online auctions, member gallery and artist sites, magazine, bookstore, and art research tools and resources.

“This agreement between AOL and artnet.com comes as the demand for online
art auctions has dramatically increased,” said Hans Neuendorf, artnet.com
chairman & CEO. “Our new AOL relationship will enable artnet.com to reach
millions of new art buyers and we are very excited to bring the world of art
and collecting to the AOL community.”
