    NEW YORK, Sept. 13–Barnesandnoble.com
    announced that it will acquire Fatbrain.com , the
    third largest online bookseller specializing in professional and technical
    titles for the corporate marketplace. Barnesandnoble.com intends to add Fatbrain.com’s business-to-business
    focus, digital publishing and print-on-demand capabilities, to complement
    its consumer-based initiatives in these areas. Barnesandnoble.com will
    acquire Fatbrain.com in a transaction valued at approximately $64 million,

    FOSTER CITY, Calif., Sept 13–Inktomi ,
    developer of scalable Internet infrastructure software, announced that it
    has signed a definitive agreement to acquire FastForward Networks.
    Based in San Francisco, FastForward
    Networks
    has developed a scalable software technology for the
    distribution and management of live broadcasting over the Internet and will
    propel Inktomi into the next
    generation of media infrastructure. Approximately 11.9 million shares of
    Inktomi common stock will be exchanged with an aggregate value of
    approximately $1.3 billion.

    724 Solutions , announced it has acquired
    Chicago-based Spyonit.com, a developer of Web-based monitoring and
    notification technology. Spyonit.com’s
    alert software adds to 724 Solutions’
    vision of offering a comprehensive, customized end-user experience for
    financial institutions’ customers. The acquisition, valued at approximately
    $53.4 million, will be comprised of $2 million cash and 1,041,616 of 724’s

    signing of a definitive agreement to acquire ChinaRen.com, a leading
    Chinese community web site. The merger of ChinaRen.com’s sticky community services
    with SOHU.com’s comprehensive content and
    search capabilities is expected to create the largest Internet portal in
    Mainland China measured by a combined registered user base of over 7.8
    million and daily page views of 44 million.
