Digital Opens Business Software Store on Web

Digital Equipment Corp. in Maynard, MA opened what it calls the Internet Innovators Web Store, an electronic distribution channel for business-focused Internet software.

The Web Store targets Digital’s channel partners, customers and prospects in the U.S. and Europe, and distributes software developed by Digital’s application partners, the company said.

The store allows Digital channel partners and customers to download evaluation software and place an order using either a company purchase order or credit card.

The store uses Microsoft Site Server technology, and is an extension of Digital’s Electronic License Delivery system, which distributes Digital software licenses to large customers over the Internet.

The Web Store is part of a Web site known as the Internet Innovators Marketplace, which includes a directory of products and services provided by Digital’s Internet partners.

“Our software partners need aggressive programs to help them sell their products, and our VARs and channel partners need a quick and easy way to offer total Internet-based solutions to their customers,” said Joan Jacobs, worldwide director of the Internet Innovators program. “The Web Store provides a synergy of functionality and benefits to both our partners and corporate
customers.”

Craig Danuloff, president and CEO of iCat Corp., a provider of electronic commerce software said: “We’re very enthusiastic that iCat’s catalog software, which is included in Digital’s CD marketing program, is now featured in the Web Store.”

Other partners currently selling products in the Web Store include Netscape, Bluestone, Durand, e-Parcel, iPASS, ISG, Logical Link, MapInfo, Networking Dynamics, Simware, Software.com, Systemetrics, Trintech, Vosaic, WebMaster and White Pine Software. Digital is also selling its own AltaVista Software products through the Web Store.
