Pervasive Software Thursday announced the
Pervasive Tango 2000 visual development environment, including full support for
COM objects and JavaBeans and drag and drop functionality for pre-coded
“business” objects.
Tango 2000, slated for release later this summer, examines business logic and associates this logic with the pages that
will be generated dynamically by the Tango Application Server. The process of
defining the business logic is to drag and drop actions that encapsulate
discrete interaction with back-end systems. By extending this process to allow
the inclusion of object technologies like COM and JavaBeans, Tango assists
teams of developers with different skill sets to build Web applications using Tangos integrated development environment.
New features in Tango 2000 include:
- Object Extensibility – to visualize objects within the Tango Development
Studio and integrate business objects and functionality.
- Tango Class Files – to save Tango code as objects for re-use in other
applications. Tango Class Files are available through the object tab just as
other object types, like COM and JavaBeans. Tango Class Files can be re-used by
dragging and dropping into Tango Application Files.
- Tango Web Analyzer – a suite of Tango components that allows real-time
monitoring of Web site activity. Enables Web site personalization and marketing
by tracking unique and repeat visitors and mapping Web site traffic flow. All
collected data is stored in a SQL database for hourly, daily, weekly and
monthly reporting and analysis. A set of provided Tango Class Files integrates
information collected via Tango Web Analyzer into Web applications.
- User Defined Tags – to extend Tangos built-in meta tags by referencing
logic defined in JavaScript or in supported object types.
- XML Implementation allows XML to be treated as a data type inside Tango for
manipulation of structured data. This provides developers with a standard
mechanism for business-to-business communication. Tango Application Files are
saved in an XML format, allowing developers to edit or create Tango Application
Files outside of the Tango environment.
The Tango Application Server enables deployment on todays most widely used
platforms and operating systems. Tango 2000 provides a copy of the
Pervasive.SQL workstation database, reporting functionality and support for
industry standards such as ODBC, HTML, XML, SQL, HTTP, CGI, JavaScript,
JavaBeans, and COM objects.
Pricing and availability information will be available on Pervasive’s Web site later this year.
