Mecklermedia Acquires WDVL for Internet.com

Mecklermedia Corp. further strengthened Internet.com’s Web development-related offerings this week with the acquistion of Web Developer’s Virtual Library, a comprehensive encyclopedia of Web technology and techniques for Webmasters, designers, and developers.

WDVL.com now joins the Internet.com network of sites that already includes industry-leading resources such as WebDeveloper.com, WebReference.com, and Java Boutique.

Founded in 1994 by Alan Richmond as a hot list on computers at NASA, WDVL.com (which also resides at www.stars.com) is the oldest commercial site for Web development resources. Richmond joins the staff of Internet.com as Managing Editor of WDVL.

“The WDVL.com site is an outstanding addition to our growing network of Internet.com sites, which provide information and tutorials for a vibrant community of Web professionals,” said Alan M. Meckler, chairman and CEO of Mecklermedia.

“Additionally, this acquisition will consolidate our hold as the top developer site on the Web and will add sorely needed additional advertising banner inventory in one of the hottest areas of Web ad spending.”

Mecklermedia also announced last week it acquired PCWebopaedia, a critically acclaimed dictionary and search engine of high-tech terms on the Internet.

Financial terms of both acquisitions were not disclosed.
