Maxtor Corporation announced that Microsoft Corp. has selected Maxtor as a Windows Embedded Partner of the Year in the OEM category.

Maxtor said it has begun shipping its MaxAttach family of storage servers with a new operating system based on Microsoft Windows 2000 with the Server Appliance Kit.

“Maxtor brings a great deal of storage expertise to our relationship, including a highly innovative R&D engineering team, and was a natural choice for the Windows Embedded OEM Partner of the Year,” said Scott Horn, director of marketing for the Embedded & Appliance Platforms Group at Microsoft Corp. “Maxtor and Microsoft have worked closely together over the last two years to improve and customize the MaxAttach operating system based on our Microsoft Server Appliance Kit so customers will have great price/performance storage options.”

Maxtor MaxAttach NAS 6000, launched in September this year, is Maxtor’s latest Windows Powered enterprise-class server. According to Maxtor, the new storage server leverages Maxtor’s ATA hard drives and the Microsoft Windows 2000 platform with the Server Appliance Kit to create a true plug-and-play offering. The device scales from 1.9TB to 5.7TB, and integrates with Microsoft Active Directory.
