Data storage automation vendor Overland Data Inc. this week announced the availability of a new line of automated tape backup products that incorporate Quantum’s backward-read compatible Super DLTtape drives.

The Quantum tape drives operate at a capacity of 110 gigabytes and a transfer rate of 11MB/sec (native uncompressed), with plans for future generations leading up to more than one terabyte of storage capacity and a 100 MB/sec data transfer rate per data cartridge.

Howard Rippiner, marketing manager EMEA of Overland Data, said, “Super DLTtape technology will allow Overland to continue building on our record of high-value, scalable storage automation solutions that help our customers meet the challenges of operating in storage-intensive LAN and Storage Area Network environments.”

Overland said it plans to broaden its product offerings beyond the mid-range tape storage market to address additional segments, including the entry-level small-business market and the higher-end enterprise environment.
